Our pilgrimage to Mexico City begins as we depart the USA for Mexico City, Mexico. On arrival, we will meet our tour escort and transfer to our hotel. Enroute we’ll visit Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine where our priests will celebrate Mass, and we’ll have our first encounter with Mary in the Tilma. Next, hotel check-in. Dinner.
Overnight Mexico City
This morning after breakfast we head again to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, “The Patroness of the Americas.” We celebrate Mass in the brilliantly colored, modern Basilica dedicated in 1976. Join your prayers with those of other pilgrims as you kneel before the altar displaying the astounding Tilma, the cloak that bears Mary’s miraculous image. We’ll also visit other sites at the Shrine including the Church of the Hill, Church of the Well, Monument of the Offerings and Church of the Indians. Dinner.
Overnight Mexico City
This morning we enjoy a pleasant drive through the fertile Morelos Valley and the Sierra Madres, first stopping in the town of Cuernavaca or “City of Eternal Spring” due to its perfect climate. Here we visit the Cathedral of Our Lady of Assumption, a former Franciscan monastery. In the afternoon, we continue to the town of Taxco, known as the “city in the clouds”. Taxco is famous for its rich source of silver and is a pearl of colonial Mexican art. Here we spend some leisurely time shopping for silver treasures and “bartering” with the local shop owners. Finally, we visit the Church of Santa Prisca, where we celebrate Mass. We return to Mexico City for dinner & overnight.
Overnight Mexico City
Depart for Tulpetlac to celebrate Mass. This is the site of the 5th apparition of the Blessed Mother and the healing of St. Juan Diego’s uncle, Juan Bernadino. We’ll have the opportunity to drink water from this miraculous well. Afterwards, we journey to the amazing Pyramids of Teotihuacan – “Place of the Gods”, where we’ll visit the Temple of Quetzalcoatl and other fascinating structures.
Overnight Mexico City
Today we’ll have guided exploration of the National Ethnographic Museum, where we’ll learn much about the Aztec peoples and what Mary’s apparition to Juan Diego meant to them and to us all. After lunch in the neighborhood of Xochimilco known as the “Floating Gardens,” we’ll visit the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Tomb of Bishop Zumarraga, who was the first to see Our Lady of Guadalupe on her Tilma. Free time at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe is also possible.
Overnight Mexico City
Full day excursion outside of Mexico City. On our way, we’ll visit The Shrine of San Miguel del Milagro in San Miguel del Milagro. In Puebla, we’ll see St. Dominic’s Church called the “Eighth Wonder of the World,” because of its scalloped goldleaf walls and ceilings. Puebla, a city dating back to colonial times is known for its exquisite pottery. Travel back to Mexico City through spectacular mountains with a view of the two most famous peaks which are perpetually covered with snow. This is considered one of the most beautiful drives in Mexico. We’ll dine at the famous Focolare Restaurant, famous for its costumed entertainers and traditional Mexican fare.

After an early breakfast we celebrate Mass at the Church where Blessed Fr. Miguel Pro, S.J. Fr. Miguel was among many martyred for their faith in last century under the Calles Regime. If time allows, we’ll make a farewell visit to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe and depart for the airport for our return flight home.
