Days until Pilgrimage
Our pilgrimage begins today as we depart on a flight from our local airport to Quito Ecuador (flights not included but can be booked on your own or through Canterbury Pilgrimages.) Upon arrival in Quito, we’ll transfer to our hotel and settle in. Later, we’ll gather for our welcome dinner. Overnight in Quito
Today, we’ll visit several landmarks, starting with the Basílica del Voto Nacional. This neo-Gothic basilica stands as a testament to Ecuador’s spiritual dedication. Its very construction was rooted in a vow to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. We’ll tour the Catedral Metropolitana, admire the Baroque altars at the Convento de San Francisco, and view President Gabriel García Moreno’s relic at his monument. Continue to the Convento de la Inmaculada Concepción, home to the statue of Our Lady of Good Success. End the day at the Convento San Ignacio de Loyola de La Compañía de Jesús. Here, we’ll venerate Saint Mariana of Jesus de Paredes, patron saint of Ecuador. Overnight in Quito
After breakfast, we visit the Estatua del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús in Guápulo, a symbol of Christ’s love. Next, we stop at the Santuario de Nuestra Señora de El Quinche, where we’ll see the revered statue of the Virgin Mary and learn about its miracles and historical renovations. After visiting, we travel to Riobamba, enjoying the changing landscapes. Overnight in Riobamba
The day starts at La Balbanera Church at Colta, the first Catholic church in Ecuador, followed by the Religious Museum of the Conceptas, which houses colonial-era religious art. We wrap up with a panoramic view of Cotopaxi from a designated viewpoint before returning to Quito. Overnight in Quito
We drive to La Gruta de la Paz, a cave sanctuary dedicated to the Virgin Mary, uniquely located within a river canyon. Later, we explore the Cathedral of Tulcán, notable for its golden altar and vibrant paintings. Overnight in Tulcán
Today involves a trip to the Sanctuary of Las Lajas in Colombia, a church famed for its dramatic architecture over a canyon and a site of Marian apparitions. Then, we explore the creatively sculpted Cemetery of Tulcán. Overnight in Ibarra
We visit the wood-carving artisans of San Antonio de Ibarra and then proceed to Hacienda La Compañía, where we’ll tour its rose gardens and the 17th-century chapel. The day ends with a flight from Quito to Lima, Peru. Overnight in Lima
After enjoying breakfast, we’ll explore Lima – capital of Peru and a city is rich in cultural sites and remarkably preserved architecture. This splendid city, being founded on the feast of the Epiphany, was first named “City of Kings” (Ciudad de los Reyes), in reference to the “Three Wise Men.” We’ll visit the colonial heart of the city – Plazas de Armas, the Cathedral and the ornate Archbishop’s Palace, the Church of Santo Domingo which houses the remains of St. Martin de Porres and St. Rose of Lima, the Monastery of St. Francis with its catacombs, and the National Museum. Overnight Lima
Following breakfast, we will tour the oldest religious complex in Lima, Nuestro del Santisimo Rosario (Our Lady of the Rosary), including the beautiful Church and Convent of Santo Domingo where St. Martin de Porres spent most of his life. There, we will venerate his tomb, which lies in the same crypt as the tomb of St. Rose of Lima. Afterwards, we’ll enjoy leisure to experience all that Lima has to offer. Overnight Lima
With a renewed sense of pilgrimage and an invigorated love for our Catholic faith, we’ll bid farewell and return home today (flights not included but can be booked on your own or through Canterbury Pilgrimages.)
You are always welcome to arrange your own flights. Arranging airfare on your own gives you the ability to spend personally-earned airline miles for your ticket, handpick your seats, upgrade directly with the airline, or deviate from the group in other ways.
We work with airlines on booking group airfare from anticipated departure airports. This allows us to get the best rates to fly you and the rest of the group to and from your destination. Group air contracts do not allow deviations, date changes, or upgrades, and in some cases issuing tickets at individual rates may be necessary. See “Can I upgrade my flights and/or depart earlier/return later than the group?” below.
Select your preferred departure airport during registration. If you don’t see your preferred airport listed, please select “send me a flight quote”.
If you have booked airfare through us and would like to apply your Known Traveler Number (for TSA PreCheck) and/or your CBP PASSID (for Global Entry), you may provide it to us during registration. Forgot your KTN? Retrieve it here: https://tsaenrollmentbyidemia.tsa.dhs.gov/ktn-lookup
We cannot book your airfare using earned frequent flyer miles or airline vouchers. However, if the airfare we book for you coincides with an airline you are a member of, we are happy to apply your frequent flyer # to your booking for any mile accrual (if applicable).
Absolutely. If you would like to arrive earlier/depart later than the group and/or upgrade your airfare, please contact us at hello@canterburypilgrimages.com
The group’s flight schedules will be provided to you digitally and in the mail 30 days before the pilgrimage.
