After breakfast we check-out of the hotel and attend mass celebrated by Bishop Wall. We make our way, then, to the Port of Miami and on board the newly-built Norwegian Encore. The Encore was awarded 2020 “Best New Ship” by the editors of Porthole Cruise Magazine; on board are a variety of dining options, nightly shows, and the largest race track at sea. We set sail and enjoy dinner and drinks at sea, along with a talk by Patrick Madrid, as we head south towards the Dominican Republic.
Today is spent at sea, enjoying the amenities of the Encore. In addition to Encore Speedway the ship boasts pools, an aqua park, laser tag, and a spa. We attend mass celebrated by Bishop Wall, and enjoy all meals and a talk from Patrick Madrid at sea.
Today we dock at Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. Our first visit will be to San Felipe Apostol Cathedral where Bishop Wall will celebrate Mass. Next, we tour Puerto Plata, visiting the Brugal rum factory, the historic city center, the 16th-century Fort San Felipe, the Amber Museum which contains a collection of plants and ancient creatures preserved in fossilized tree sap, and the Luperón House Museum which is dedicated the national hero General Gregorio Luperón. Spend the balance of your time taking in Puerto Plata’s unique sights and shops, or at nearby beaches. We return to the ship and embark for St Thomas. Back aboard the ship for dinner and entertainment.
Following breakfast aboard the Encore we then disembark the ship at Charlotte Amalie, St Thomas, US Virgin Islands – one of the most beautiful harbors in the world. Our first visit will be to Saints Peter & Paul Cathedral where Bishop Wall will celebrate Mass. Next, we tour St Thomas. We visit its highest peak, Mountain Top, from which we can see the harbor, the Caribbean Sea, the British Virgin Islands and Magen’s Bay. We then proceed to Magen’s Bay, which is often rated as one of the top ten beaches in the world. We visit the historic downtown area which would have once been filled with traders and pirates. After free time for shopping we return to the ship, where we enjoy dinner as we head on to Tortola.
This morning, after breakfast, we depart the ship at Tortola, British Virgin Islands. This island was discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1493 and is home to gigantic mahogany trees and white sand beaches. We tour the island, beginning with Road Town, Tortola’s capital. We proceed into the hills, enjoying beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean and nearby islands. We visit Cane Garden Bay where we have time to visit the local shops or take a quick swim in the transparent waters of Cane Garden Bay Beach. We drive through small towns like Carrot Bay, Capoons Bay and Apple Bay, and Zion Hill before returning to the ship. At sea once again, we attend mass celebrated by Bishop Wall, enjoy a talk by Patrick Madrid, and have dinner.
