Our pilgrimage begins today as we depart on an afternoon flight to Mexico City. Upon arrival in Mexico City, we will collect our bags, meet our Canterbury tour manager, and transfer to our hotel. Welcome dinner and overnight in Mexico City.
Today we will spend the day visiting the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, “The Patroness of the Americas.” Wecelebrate Mass in the brilliantly colored, modern Basilica dedicated in 1976. Join your prayers with those of other pilgrims as you kneel before the altar displaying the astounding Tilma, the sackcloth bearing the image of the Holy Virgin. We will also visit the Church of the Hill, Church of the Well, Monument of the Offerings and Church of the Indians. There will be leisure time this afternoon to visit the shrine. Throughout our time in the Cathedral, we’ll see stunning paintings, altar pieces and statues as well as the Tomb of Bishop Zumarraga. Next, we will visit Puebla to visit St. Dominic’s Church, and its Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary. These Baroque styled structures are known for their walls, and dome, that are covered in gold leaf and plaster. The next visit in Puebla is at the Church of St. Francis of Assisi where you will view the incorrupt body of St. Sebastian of Aparicio. While exploring the quaint streets of Puebla’s historic downtown, we will visit the oldest public library in the Americas, the Biblioteca Palafoxiana. There will be leisure time in Puebla to wander as you wish, be sure to visit the famous Candy Street. Before departing Puebla, we will have dinner followed by our return to the hotel in Mexico City.
After breakfast we visit the Church where Blessed Fr. Miguel Pro, S.J. served. Fr. Miguel was martyred for his faith last century under the Calles Regime. Next, we will depart for Tulpetlac to celebrate Mass at Santa Maria Tulpetlac. Will have the opportunity to drink water from this miraculous well. Afterwards, we journey to the Pyramids of Teotihuacan, “Place of the gods,” where we’ll visit the Temple of Quetzalcoatl and other fascinating structures as well as a presentation on the Maguey plant. You are always welcome to arrange your own flights. Arranging airfare on your own gives you the ability to spend personally-earned airline miles for your ticket, handpick your seats, upgrade directly with the airline, or deviate from the group in other ways.
We work with airlines on booking group airfare from anticipated departure airports. This allows us to get the best rates to fly you and the rest of the group to and from your destination. Group air contracts do not allow deviations, date changes, or upgrades, and in some cases issuing tickets at individual rates may be necessary. See “special flight/hotel requests section” below.
Select your preferred departure airport during registration. If you don’t see your preferred airport listed, please select “send me a flight quote”.
If you have booked airfare through us and would like to apply your Known Traveler Number (for TSA PreCheck) and/or your CBP PASSID (for Global Entry), you may provide it to us during registration. Forgot your KTN? Retrieve it here: https://tsaenrollmentbyidemia.tsa.dhs.gov/ktn-lookup
We cannot book your airfare using earned frequent flyer miles or airline vouchers. However, if the airfare we book for you coincides with an airline you are a member of, we are happy to apply your frequent flyer # to your booking for any mile accrual (if applicable).
Absolutely. If you would like to arrive earlier/depart later than the group and/or upgrade your airfare, please contact us at hello@canterburypilgrimages.com
The group’s flight schedules will be provided to you digitally and in the mail 30 days before the pilgrimage.
