Itinerary

Day 1 | Monday October 13th, 2025Depart for Lisbon

Our pilgrimage begins today as we board our overnight flight(s) from Portland to Lisbon, Portugal.

Meals and refreshments are served on the plane

Day 2 | October 14thSt. Anthony of Padua & St. Stephen's Church

Upon arrival in Lisbon, we’ll visit the birthplace of St. Anthony of Padua in Lisbon and further north we’ll visit St. Stephen’s Church in Santarem and adore the miracle of the “Bleeding Host.” (Subject to change based on arrival time) Afternoon arrival into Fátima. Tonight, we’ll all head to the shrine for the candlelight procession.

Day 3 | October 15thCapelinha, Aljustrel, Valinho

We enjoy Mass this morning at the Capelinha built over the holm oak tree where Our Lady appeared five times to the three shepherd children Lucia, Jacinta, and Francisco. We’ll tour the basilica and shrine. This afternoon, we’ll visit Aljustrel where the angel of Portugal appeared, and Valinhos where Our Lady appeared in August of 1917. Tonight, we’ll all head to the shrine for the candlelight procession.

Day 4 | October 16thJourney to Lourdes

This morning, we depart Fatima and drive to Porto; we will have some time in Porto before we board our flight to Toulouse. Afternoon arrival into Toulouse, then we will collect our bags and transfer to Lourdes. This afternoon, we will have time to relax our explores Lourdes on our own. In the evening, we will gather for the candlelight procession.

Day 5 | October 17thOur Lady of Lourdes, Cave of Apparitions, Basilica of St. Bernadette

Today we visit the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes, the Cave of Apparitions, the Basilicas and the House of St. Bernadette. In the afternoon we’ll have free time to participate in the ceremonies of the Sanctuary and bathe in the miraculous waters. After dinner, we participate in the Candlelight Rosary Procession.

Day 6 | October 18thJourney to Rome

Following morning Mass, we bid farewell to Our Lady, but with the consolation that she’s always with us as we continue our pilgrim way, for no pilgrim ever leaves Lourdes untouched by Mary. We’re off to Rome by flight. Upon arrival into Rome, we will take a “get yourself acquainted tour” of the Eternal City. (subject to arrival time). Later we will check into our hotel.

Day 7 | October 19thAssisi and Blessed Carlo Acutis

After breakfast, we begin our day trip to Assisi. Our first visit will be St. Mary of the Angels, where St. Francis spent a significant part of his life. We will explore the Chapel Portiuncola, the rose bush, and the cave where the saint retreated for prayer. Next, we will proceed to the Church of St. Clare to view the Saint’s body, incorrupt since her death centuries ago. St. Clare was the foundress of the Order of Poor Clare’s. We will have some free time for lunch at Piazza della comuna followed by a visit to St. Mary Major. Today we will also visit the Basilica of St. Francis where Father will celebrate Mass. Finally, we will take time to visit the Shrine of the Renunciation, where the millennial saint Blessed Carlo Acutis’ body is interred, and learn more about his life and spirituality. We’ll return to Rome for dinner and an overnight.

Day 8 | October 20thMajor Roman Basilicas

Today we will visit and have an opportunity to walk through the Holy Doors at the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls, the Basilica of St. Mary Major, and the Archbasilica of St. John Lateran which symbolizes passing into the presence of God by way of our Lord Jesus, who called himself the “gate.” Those who pass through a Holy Door can also receive a plenary indulgence. At the Archbasilica of St. John Lateran, we also will have the opportunity to climb the Lateran Steps and Celebrate Holy Mass.

Day 9 | October 21stExploring Ancient Rome

After breakfast, we will embark on a historic tour of Ancient Rome. We will stroll along Cobblestone streets, lined with majestic stone pines, and visit the Colosseum, a grand amphitheater of the ancient world. Along the way we’ll stop for prayer at the Basilica of Saint Clement. Passing by the Roman Forum, we will witness the ruins of ancient government buildings. We’ll finish the day visiting the Catacombs of St. Callixtus, a resting place of several popes from the 2nd to 4th centuries.

Day 10: Wednesday, October 8Vatican City & The Papal Audience

In the morning, we head to Saint Peter’s Square for the Papal general audience with Pope Francis (subject to his schedule). Afterward, we will have a private Mass nearby. Following a brief lunch, we tour the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica, marveling at the incredible art and history. Today we will be able to walk through the Holy Door at St. Peters Basilica. We will gather in the evening for our farewell dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 11 | Thursday October 23rd, 2025Our Pilgrimage comes to and end

With a renewed sense of pilgrimage, and an invigorated love of our Catholic faith, we transfer to the Rome Fiumicino Airport and board our return flight home.

What is group airfare?

We work with airlines on booking group airfare from anticipated departure airports. This allows us to get the best rates to fly you and the rest of the group to and from your destination. Group air contracts do not allow deviations, date changes, or upgrades, and in some cases issuing tickets at individual rates may be necessary. See “special flight/hotel requests section” below.

Can I use frequent flyer miles or airline vouchers?

We cannot book your airfare using earned frequent flyer miles or airline vouchers. However, if the airfare we book for you coincides with an airline you are a member of, we are happy to apply your frequent flyer # to your booking for any mile accrual (if applicable).

Can I upgrade my flights and/or depart earlier/return later than the group?

Absolutely. If you would like to arrive earlier/depart later than the group and/or upgrade your airfare, please contact us at hello@canterburypilgrimages.com

When will I receive my flight schedule?

The group’s flight schedules will be provided to you digitally and in the mail 30 days before the pilgrimage.
