What is a pilgrimage?
A pilgrimage is a spiritual journey designed to deepen your relationship with God and enrich your Catholic faith. It involves visiting holy sites, participating in daily Mass, and reflecting on the lives of saints and biblical events.

What does my pilgrimage package include?
Your package typically includes accommodations, meals, private transportation, daily Mass, guided tours, and a detailed itinerary. Specifics vary by trip, so refer to your booking details for a complete list.


Preparation and Packing

What should I pack?

  • Comfortable, modest clothing appropriate for visiting churches (e.g., no shorts pr skirts above the knee or bare shoulders).
  • Comfortable, closed-toe shoes for walking on uneven surfaces.
  • A lightweight jacket or shawl for varying weather conditions.

  • Your rosary, for personal prayer and devotions.

Is there a baggage allowance?
For flights arranged through Canterbury Pilgrimages, one checked bag (up to 50 lbs/23 kg) and one carry-on bag (up to 17 lbs/8 kg) are included with Economy and Premium Economy airfare. Personal items must fit under the seat in front of you. Airline-specific dimensions apply.

Do I need travel insurance?
We highly recommend travel insurance. Most travelers choose our partner Allianz Travel Insurance, which provides assistance for cancellation, flight delays, medical emergencies, and lost documents, and more.


Travel Logistics

When should I arrive at the airport?
We suggest arriving at the airport at least 3 hours before your flight departure for check-in and security screening. If you have an early morning flight, check what time the airport opens, as it may not open 3 hours before. In this case it is okay to arrive when the airport opens.

What happens if my flight is delayed or canceled?
If your flight is delayed or canceled, the airline will assist in rebooking. Once you receive your updated itinerary, please notify Canterbury Pilgrimages so we can adjust your airport pickup if applicable.

What should I do upon arrival?

If airport transfers are included in your package or you purchased them separately – After collecting your luggage and passing through customs, look for your Canterbury Pilgrimages tour manager holding a Canterbury sign or your name in the Arrival Hall.

If airport transfers are not included in your package and you didn’t purchase them – You will be responsible for your own transportation to and from the airports and hotels. Hotel addresses are provided 30-days before departure. 


On the Pilgrimage

How physically demanding is the pilgrimage?
Pilgrimages often involve significant walking, sometimes on uneven or cobblestone surfaces. Rest when necessary and bring a wheelchair if required. Consult your doctor before traveling if you have concerns.

What is the dress code for visiting churches?
Churches generally require modest attire: no shorts above the knee, sleeveless tops, or short skirts. Women should carry a shawl or scarf to cover their shoulders.

What meals are included?
Breakfast and dinner are typically included. For lunch, some trips offer optional add-ons, if lunch is not included there will be time for you each day to explore local cuisine at your own cost.

What tips and gratuities are expected? (only if tips are not included)

Please note that some pilgrimages include multiple countries, depending on the countries local regulations we may have to change tour managers and drivers. In this case you pay them each at the end of their service.

  • Tour Manager: $7-$10 per person/day
  • Driver: $3-$5 per person/day
  • Local guides: $1-$2 at the end of their service

Tips are payable in USD or Euros.


Safety and Money

How do I handle money while traveling?
We recommend using credit cards for most purchases. Notify your bank of your travel plans to avoid issues. Carry some local currency for small purchases and tips, as cash may be required in certain locations and for emergencies.

Are there any safety precautions I should take?
Beware of pickpockets, especially in crowded areas. For men keep your wallets in front pockets and for women avoid large bulky purses. Avoid engaging with beggars. Always wear your name badge for group identification.
